Sports Crucial for Youth Empowerment and Nation Building: Minister Satish Sharma
MAIRA MANDRIAN, MARCH 29: Highlighting the transformative role of athletics in character development, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, stated today that sports are a vital instrument for harnessing the energy of the nation’s youth.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the annual sports day of PM Shri NB/Sub Bansi Lal Government High School in Maira Mandrian, the Minister emphasized that the younger generation forms the backbone of society, and the government is fully committed to building a robust sports ecosystem that nurtures raw talent from rural villages to national platforms.
The event saw a vibrant turnout of students, teachers, and local community members, reflecting a burgeoning culture of fitness and grassroots sports participation in the region.
Accompanied by Chief Education Officer Ajeet Sharma and various departmental heads, Minister Satish Sharma detailed the government’s policy priorities, which include the rapid expansion of sports infrastructure and the integration of physical education more deeply into the academic framework.
He noted that the Department of Youth Services & Sports is intensifying its efforts to identify and groom young athletes at an early stage, ensuring that those in remote areas receive the same opportunities to excel as their urban counterparts.
Reinforcing the need for a balanced lifestyle, the Minister urged students to maintain discipline and strike a healthy harmony between their studies and physical activities.
The visit concluded on a high note with a prize distribution ceremony for outstanding performers and the laying of foundation stones for several new developmental projects aimed at strengthening the local public infrastructure.
