NEW DELHI, February 11, 2026 — In a major breakthrough for Indian law enforcement, the Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA/FEOA) at Rouse Avenue District Court has officially declared Karan A. Chanana and Anita Daing of Amira Pure Foods Private Limited as Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO).
Following an application by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Gurugram Zonal Office, the court issued an order on February 6, 2026, mandating the confiscation of assets worth Rs 123.85 Crore belonging to the accused and their associated entities under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018.
This development follows a high-profile investigation into a massive financial fraud that has left a consortium of banks facing significant losses. The legal action stems from an investigation initiated by the ED based on a CBI FIR against Amira Pure Foods, a major player in the Indian basmati rice industry.
The company, through its directors and promoters, is alleged to have orchestrated a sophisticated scheme involving the siphoning and diversion of funds, criminal breach of trust, and cheating. According to the ED, the company availed massive bank loans and cash credit facilities totaling approximately Rs 1,201.85 Crore from a consortium led by Canara Bank.
These loans were declared Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in 2017, leading to a wrongful loss of over twelve hundred crore rupees to the banking sector.Further investigations into money laundering have led the ED to file a Prosecution Complaint against 21 persons and entities. To date, the agency has identified and attached “Proceeds of Crime” totaling Rs 131.51 Crore, an amount already confirmed by the Hon’ble Adjudicating Authority.
The ED has revealed that Chanana and Daing fled the country to avoid prosecution and are currently believed to be residing in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, respectively. While Interpol has issued a Silver Notice against Karan A.
Chanana to trace and freeze his global assets, Indian authorities have also issued Non-Bailable Warrants and Look-Out Circulars. The ED continues to trace further domestic and foreign assets linked to the Chanana family as the probe intensifies.
