JAMMU, February 13, 2026 – Abdul Rahim Rather, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (JKLA), expressed deep sorrow today following the demise of Qamar Ali Akhoon, a veteran politician and former Minister.
Describing the loss as a significant blow to the public life of the region, the Speaker visited Karbala House in Jammu to pay his final respects and offer heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Rather characterized Akhoon as a “visionary leader” and a “consummate political organizer” whose career was defined by a sincere commitment to the development of the Ladakh region and the upliftment of the marginalized sections of society.Recalling a long and cordial professional association, the Speaker praised Akhoon as a down-to-earth administrator who remained deeply connected to the grassroots.
He noted that the former Minister’s practical, humble, and sensible approach to governance earned him widespread respect across the political spectrum. Highlighting Akhoon’s specific dedication to the welfare of the people of Kargil, Rather remarked that the void created by his passing would be incredibly difficult to fill.
The Speaker concluded his visit by praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul and for the family to find the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.
