Sopore Teacher Suspended and Booked Following Alleged Assault on Female Student​

Sopore, April 13: Tension gripped Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Sopore on Monday as scores of students staged emotional protests, alleging that a teacher had sexually assaulted one of their classmates.The demonstrators raised slogans and demanded immediate justice, expressing a profound lack of safety within the school premises.

In response to the unrest, SSP Sopore, Iftikhar Talib, confirmed that the police took immediate cognizance of the matter, registering an FIR against the accused, identified as Ghulam Hassan (alias Azhar), and initiating formal legal proceedings.​

Following the police action, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) issued an official order to address the gravity of the situation.

According to Order No: 61-DSEK of 2026, dated 13-04-2026, Ghulam Hassan Mir, a Senior Lecturer in Urdu at GGHSS Sopore, Baramulla, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his conduct.

During the suspension period, the accused has been attached to BHSS Badugam, Gurez, Bandipora.​To ensure a thorough investigation, the Directorate has appointed the Joint Director, North, as the inquiry officer.

The officer is mandated to conduct a comprehensive probe and submit a formal report to the Directorate within 15 days.

While SSP Talib assured the protesting students that strict legal action is being pursued, the school administration and local authorities remain in discussions with the student body to restore a sense of security. Further investigations into the case are currently underway.
