Sonamarg Avalanche Caught on CCTV: No Casualties After Massive Snow Sweep in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, Jan 28: A massive “swoosh” of snow swept through the Sonamarg region of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district late Tuesday evening following a powerful avalanche near the Sarbal area. The incident, which occurred around 10:13 PM near a local truck yard, was captured on CCTV cameras from nearby hotels.

Despite the visual intensity of the snow cloud engulfing local structures, officials have confirmed there were no reported casualties or significant property damage.The avalanche was triggered by heavy, continuous snowfall that began late Monday night.

While social media footage showed a dramatic wave of blowing snow sweeping across houses and village structures, the impact remained relatively superficial. Local authorities have since deputed teams to the site to assess the situation and continue monitoring the terrain.

In response to the event, senior officials have urged residents and travelers in avalanche-prone zones to exercise extreme caution as weather conditions fluctuate.
