UDHAMPUR AUGUST 24, 2025: Department of Sociology, Government College for Women(GCW), Udhampur, organized a Slogan Writing Competition on the theme “Protection of Tansgender from Discrimination” as a part of academic activities.The programme was conducted under the able guidance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania.The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania, Principal of the College, who emphasized the importance of organizing such activities. She stressed that society needs to recognize and accept the dignity and fundamental human rights of trans-genders who identify as neither male nor female.
Further, she explained, “The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019”that aims to protect the rights and welfare of the transgender persons.Earlier the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Swati Dutt (HODSociology) where she highlighted the importance of the topic. She exhorted upon the need for protection of transgender from discrimination as this section of society faces multiple challenges including social stigma, discrimination and inequality with regard toeducation and employment.A total of 16 students from different semesters of the Collegeparticipated enthusiastically and expressed their views through their slogans.
The slogans were adjudged by Prof. Swarna Devi (HOD,Political Science), Dr. Anita Kumari (Assistant Professor, Zoology) and Prof. Pooja Bharti (HOD, Geography).In the Competition, Reetika Jamwal secured first position, Poli Devi stood second and Srishti Sandhu secured third position (students of Semester V). The whole programme was organised by Dr. Swati Dutt (HOD, Sociology). The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Pooja Bharti.Other faculty members present in the event, were Dr. Mool Raj (HOD, Urdu), Prof. Yash Paul (HOD, History) and Prof. Yash Kumar (Assistant Professor, Music).
