SKUAST-K and Tarang Health Alliance Partner to Revolutionize School-Based Health Education in J&K

SRINAGAR, February 01, 2026 — In a strategic move to boost human development across Jammu and Kashmir, the SKUAST-K Innovation Centre and the Tarang Health Alliance have officially partnered to integrate structured health education into the formal school curriculum.

During a high-level webinar co-organized by Fijeeha and ACTION, Dr. Rahul Mehra, Chairman of Tarang Health Alliance, emphasized that health and education must be intertwined to unlock the region’s long-term potential.

He argued that children cannot reach their full academic promise if they are burdened by poor health, advocating for schools to serve as the primary platforms for sustainable behavioral change and health literacy.

The urgency of this partnership is underscored by alarming regional health data: nearly two-thirds of women aged 15–49 in J&K are currently anemic, and over 50% of children aged 5–9 show elevated triglyceride levels.

These figures suggest an early susceptibility to chronic issues such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

While acknowledging national efforts like Mission Poshan 2.0, Dr. Mehra stressed that medical interventions alone are insufficient without daily health practices taught in classrooms.

The new initiative aims to implement a holistic curriculum covering physical, mental, and social well-being, positioning health education as a vital investment in the economic resilience and productivity of J&K’s future generations.
