JAMMU | January 06, 2026: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today lauded the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu for its transformative role in the regional economy.

During a high-level review meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr. B. N. Tripathi at the Civil Secretariat, the Deputy CM emphasized that the university’s knowledge-based interventions in agriculture and animal sciences are crucial for strengthening the livelihoods of the people of Jammu.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and scientific research to ensure Jammu and Kashmir remains a leader in agricultural innovation.

The meeting focused heavily on the progress of flagship initiatives, including the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and JKCIP. Deputy CM Choudhary underscored the importance of effective implementation to ensure these centrally and UT-sponsored schemes reach the grassroots level.

A critical portion of the discussion was dedicated to the restoration of infrastructure damaged by recent floods.

The Vice Chancellor informed the Deputy CM that a comprehensive assessment report regarding losses at the main campus and various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) has been submitted for urgent restoration and repair funding.

Beyond infrastructure, the Deputy Chief Minister inquired about student enrollment trends in specialized fields such as Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, and Veterinary Sciences.

He highlighted that promoting progressive farming in horticulture and allied sectors is the key to boosting the UT’s overall economic health.

Assuring the university of full government backing, Choudhary noted that SKUAST-J would continue to receive the necessary resources to empower farmers and enhance agricultural productivity across the region.
