Skill India in Ladakh: Fire and Fury Corps Empowers Shachukul Women Through Skill Development
LEH, LADAKH | March 21, 2026 — In a significant move to bolster rural entrepreneurship, the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps, in collaboration with Jan Shiksha Sansthan (JSS), Leh, successfully concluded a comprehensive skill development programme today at Shachukul Village in Tangtse.
Spanning from March 9 to March 21, 2026, the initiative was executed under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) as part of the nationwide Skill India mission. With the strategic support of the Trishul Division, the programme specifically targeted the socio-economic upliftment of women in one of India’s most remote high-altitude regions.
The two-week vocational training provided 30 local women with certified expertise in soft toy manufacturing and mushroom cultivation, two sectors identified for their high potential in local markets and self-employment.
By bringing MSDE-certified instructors to the doorstep of the Shachukul community, the programme bridged the gap between traditional lifestyles and modern economic opportunities.
The enthusiastic participation of the beneficiaries underscores a growing appetite for financial independence among the women of Ladakh, transforming them into skilled contributors to the region’s growing “Viksit Bharat” vision.
