Silk Technical Service Centre, Central Silk Board, Jammu Establishes Sericulture Resource Centre under Silk Samagra-2
Jammu, 02 March 2026: The Silk Technical Service Centre, Jammu under the Central Silk Board has successfully established a Sericulture Resource Centre (SRC) for Post Cocoon Technology under the flagship scheme Silk Samagra-2 for a period of three years.
The Sericulture Resource Centre was formally inaugurated today by Alok Singh, Scientist-B, STSC Jammu. The centre has been established with the objective of strengthening the post cocoon sector in the region by providing systematic training, technical guidance, and awareness regarding modern post cocoon technologies and Government support mechanisms.
Under this initiative, the centre will conduct 10 training batches every year, with 20 participants in each batch, thereby covering a total of 600 stakeholders over a period of three years. The training programs will focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of post cocoon technology, including: Silk reeling, Weaving, Dyeing and Quality control and value addition techniquesThe training centre is well equipped with modern facilities to ensure effective learning.
It includes a Smart TV for theoretical sessions, laptop, adequate seating arrangements with chairs and tables, and all other essential infrastructure required for conducting high-quality training programs. These facilities will enable interactive classroom sessions along with practical demonstrations to enhance participants’ technical understanding.The primary aim of establishing this Sericulture Resource Centre is to create awareness among silkworm rearers, reelers, weavers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders about the importance of scientific post cocoon practices.
The training will also educate participants about various Government schemes and financial assistance available for setting up and upgrading post cocoon units.Through capacity building and skill development, the centre intends to enhance the quality of silk yarn and fabrics, promote value addition at the local level, and generate sustainable self-employment opportunities.
By strengthening the post cocoon segment, the initiative aims to reduce dependency on external markets and revive traditional silk processing activities in the region.The establishment of the Sericulture Resource Centre marks a significant step toward revitalizing post cocoon activities in Jammu and adjoining areas, reaffirming the commitment of the Central Silk Board to promote integrated and sustainable development of the silk industry.
