SHOPIAN, Feb 8: In a decisive strike against the black marketing of essential commodities, the Shopian Police recovered approximately 700 liters of illegal kerosene oil and diesel during a targeted raid in the Imamsahib area on Sunday.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the unauthorized sale of subsidized fuel, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted the consignment and apprehended the individual allegedly spearheading the trade. The accused, identified as Naseer Ahmad War, a resident of Arwani Bijbehara, was caught in possession of the fuel at a local shop.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was siphoning subsidized kerosene oil—intended for public distribution—and selling it at inflated prices in the black market. Consequently, a formal case under FIR No. 10/2026 has been registered at the Imamsahib Police Station, and the illicit fuel has been confiscated.
Authorities have launched a deeper investigation to trace the original source of the procurement. Shopian Police have issued a stern warning that any government official found facilitating this illegal trade or aiding in the diversion of subsidized supplies will face strict legal consequences.
The department has reiterated its commitment to dismantling local criminal networks and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to ensure the fair distribution of resources.
