Shopian Police Intensify Anti-Narcotics Crackdown: 84 Arrested and Assets Worth Crores Seized in 2025

Shopian | December 31, 2025In a resolute campaign to eradicate drug trafficking, the Shopian Police have delivered a series of decisive blows to the narcotics trade throughout 2025.

During the year, law enforcement registered 72 FIRs and arrested 84 individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illicit substances. To further dismantle criminal networks, 10 notorious habitual offenders were detained under the stringent PIT NDPS Act.

This aggressive enforcement strategy underscores a zero-tolerance policy aimed at protecting the youth and ensuring the long-term safety of the district.The scale of the year’s recoveries highlights the intensity of the crackdown, with police seizing over 317 kilograms of narcotics, including Charas, Cannabis, Poppy Straw, and Heroin.

Additionally, officers recovered 24,700 ml of codeine-based syrups and hundreds of psychotropic tablets, with the total street value of the contraband reaching several crores of rupees.

Beyond individual arrests, the police focused on the financial infrastructure of the drug trade by seizing four residential properties valued at approximately ₹1 crore, which were identified as being acquired through the proceeds of narcotics-related crimes.

Furthering their commitment to a drug-free society, the Shopian Police carried out a massive destruction of seized materials, incinerating over 716 kilograms of contraband and thousands of illicit drug bottles related to 58 past cases. The department also targeted the source of illegal substances by destroying wild cannabis cultivated across nearly 100 kanals of state land.

J&K Police continue to urge civil society and parents to cooperate with law enforcement, emphasizing that public intelligence remains vital in safeguarding future generations from the menace of drug addiction.
