Shopian Drug Crackdown: J&K Police Seize Massive Contraband Haul and Arrest One in Barbugh Raid
SHOPIAN, January 9, 2026 — Bolstering the ongoing war against the drug menace in South Kashmir, the Shopian Police successfully recovered a significant quantity of illicit substances during a high-stakes raid on a residential property in the Barbugh Imamsahib area.
Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized team from Police Station Imamsahib, accompanied by the Tehsildar of Barbugh, executed a court-authorized search warrant at the home of Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday.
During the thorough search operation, authorities seized 20.720 kilograms of cannabis and 130 grams of a charas-like substance concealed within the premises.
Following the recovery, the accused was immediately taken into custody under FIR No. 02/2026 of the NDPS Act, and a comprehensive investigation has been launched to trace the forward and backward linkages of the contraband.
Reaffirming its mission to eradicate narcotics from society, the J&K Police has urged citizens to share information regarding drug peddling via the PCR Shopian helpline, promising that the identity of all informers will remain strictly confidential.
