Shopian Authorities Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Mining: Machinery Seized in Late-Night Operation
SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 25: In a decisive move to protect natural resources, the Revenue Department Keller executed a successful late-night raid against illegal mining activities in the Gujar Basti area of Kralcheck. Conducted under the direct supervision of the Tehsildar Keller and Naib Tehsildar Berthipora, the operation targeted unauthorized soil extraction that has been impacting the local environment.
During the crackdown, officials apprehended individuals at the site and seized heavy machinery, including one JCB and a tipper, both of which were being utilized for the illegal excavation and transportation of soil.The confiscated equipment has been handed over to the Batipora Police Post, where a formal FIR has been registered as part of an ongoing investigation to identify all parties involved in the illicit trade.
Revenue authorities have issued a stern warning to violators, reiterating their firm commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the region’s natural assets. They emphasized that these enforcement drives will continue across the district and that anyone found engaging in unauthorized mining or soil extraction will face stringent legal consequences.
