Security Forces Intensify Hunt for Three Jaish Terrorists in Snowbound Kishtwar

JAMMU, February 1, 2026 — Joint security forces have resumed a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) in the treacherous, snow-covered heights of the Kishtwar district to neutralize three holed-up Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists. Following a pre-dawn gunbattle on Saturday in the Dolgam area, the operation has entered a critical phase with the induction of Special Forces, Rashtriya Rifles, and sniffer dogs.

Drone surveillance has reportedly detected bloodstains in the area, suggesting at least one terrorist was injured during the recent exchange of fire. To maintain operational secrecy and prevent the spread of misinformation, mobile internet services remain suspended within a six-kilometer radius of the Chatroo-Dolgam-Dichhar belt.

The ongoing operation is being conducted under extreme weather conditions, with troops navigating over two feet of snow and thick vegetation. This high-altitude pursuit is supported by aerial surveillance from helicopters and advanced drones to monitor the movement of the terrorists, who have established contact with security forces four times in the last two weeks.

Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited the district on Saturday to review the counter-terrorism grid, praising the unwavering resolve of the troops. In a bid to isolate the insurgents, Village Defence Guards (VDGs) have been placed on high alert, and security agencies are strictly monitoring local logistics to prevent any food or shelter from reaching the fugitives.
