Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa Inspects Sonamarg Weighbridge; Orders Strict Enforcement of Axle Load Norms
GANDERBAL, December 26, 2025: In a strategic move to safeguard road infrastructure and enhance highway safety, Secretary of the Transport Department, Avny Lavasa, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Sonamarg Weighbridge today.
Accompanied by the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir and ARTO Ganderbal, the Secretary evaluated the facility’s operational efficiency, manpower availability, and technological infrastructure. During the visit, she emphasized that the strict enforcement of axle load norms is non-negotiable, as overloading remains a primary cause of road damage and traffic congestion in the high-altitude terrain.
Addressing the staff and senior officials, Secretary Lavasa issued categorical directives to maintain round-the-clock functionality at the weighbridge, particularly to manage the heavy vehicular flow during peak tourist seasons. She stressed the need for absolute transparency in operations and seamless inter-departmental coordination to ensure that traffic regulation remains uninterrupted.
By interacting directly with the on-ground personnel to understand operational challenges, the Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing transport enforcement mechanisms. This visit underscores a proactive approach to road safety, aiming to protect the vital road network of Sonamarg while ensuring efficient public service delivery for both commuters and transporters.
