Satish Sharma Backs Traditional Sports at Gharattal Dangal Competition

JAMMU, JANUARY 15, 2026: Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, Youth Services & Sports, and Transport, underscored the government’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage by attending a high-energy Dangal competition at Gharattal today.

The event, organized by the local Dangal Committee, transformed the area into a vibrant center for traditional wrestling, attracting a massive crowd of sports enthusiasts and residents. Showcasing the high stakes of the competition, top prizes were awarded at ₹1.51 lakh, ₹1 lakh, and ₹50,000, drawing elite talent from across Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.

During his address, Minister Sharma praised the organizers for maintaining the region’s rich athletic traditions and providing a vital platform for wrestlers to exhibit their skills. Defining Dangal as a cornerstone of cultural legacy that instills discipline and strength in the youth, he reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure while simultaneously protecting indigenous sports.

He emphasized that the government is focused on fostering a healthy sporting culture by providing equal opportunities for athletes in both modern and traditional disciplines, ultimately aiming to build a confident and fit future generation.
