Samba Police Seize Vehicle Transporting Illegally Cut Khair Wood; FIR Registered

SAMBA, January 30, 2026 — In a major crackdown on the timber mafia, the Samba Police successfully intercepted and seized a vehicle loaded with a large quantity of illegally cut Khair wooden logs. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of stolen timber, a dedicated team from Police Station Ghagwal established a checkpoint at the Tapyal Naka on the National Highway.

During the operation, officers intercepted a Mahindra load carrier (registration No. JK08F-0119) and discovered that the cargo consisted of Khair wood stolen from both State and private lands in the Surara area.The police immediately seized the vehicle and the timber on the spot as part of their ongoing efforts to protect forest resources and state property.

Following the recovery, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 13/2026 U/S 303(2) at the Ghagwal Police Station. An intensive investigation is currently underway to identify the individuals behind the illegal felling and to determine if an organized syndicate is involved in the illicit timber trade across the district.
