Samba Police Attach Vehicle Worth ₹9.82 Lakh Belonging to Notorious Bovine Smuggler

SAMBA, February 16, 2026: In a major strike against organized crime and animal trafficking, the Samba Police have officially attached a commercial vehicle valued at approximately ₹9,82,000 belonging to a habitual bovine smuggler. The action was taken under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), following a formal order from the Honorable Court of Samba.

The seized property, a Mahindra Auto Load Carrier (Registration No. JK02DM-0781), is owned by Mohd Hanif, a resident of Chak Mohdyar, R.S. Pura, who has been identified as a key figure in regional smuggling networks.

A detailed financial and criminal investigation revealed that the accused had no legitimate source of income, leading authorities to conclude that the vehicle was purchased entirely from the proceeds of illegal activities.

Mohd Hanif is a notorious offender with a significant criminal record, including multiple FIRs registered across the Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban districts. The specific vehicle in question was directly linked to FIR No. 223/2025 at Police Station Samba and has been a recurring tool in smuggling operations handled by police stations in Jhajjar Kotli, Nagrota, Batote, and Ramban.

This attachment underscores the J&K Police’s strategy to dismantle the financial foundations of habitual offenders to curb the menace of bovine smuggling in the Union Territory.
