SAMBA, February 1, 2026 — In a coordinated crackdown on the illegal sale of pharmaceutical drugs, the Samba Police and the Drugs Control Department have sealed two prominent medical shops in the Ramgarh area.
The joint operation targeted M/S Jai Laxmi Medicos and M/S Vaishnavi Medical Agency following reports of massive regulatory violations. During the inspections, officials recovered a total of 25,699 Pregabalin capsules—1,989 from Jai Laxmi Medicos and a staggering 23,710 from Vaishnavi Medical Agency.
These significant quantities were being held without any supporting purchase bills, vouchers, or mandatory sale records, indicating a major breach of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.The investigation revealed that these pharmacies were not only failing to maintain transparency in their inventory but were also allegedly dispensing the controlled medication without valid medical prescriptions.
The complete absence of statutory documentation and the unauthorized possession of these drugs led the Drugs Control Department to exercise its powers under Section 22(1)(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Both establishments were sealed on the spot in the presence of police officials to prevent further illicit trade. Authorities have emphasized that this move is part of a broader strategy to curb the misuse of prescription drugs and ensure that all medical vendors strictly adhere to public health safety laws.
