Funded by the Ministry of Textiles and sanctioned by the Central Silk Board, the project aims to train 320 artisans during the 2025–26 cycle at a cost of ₹21,16,800. Director of IICT Zubair Ahmad confirmed that the first phase has officially commenced, with 160 candidates enrolled in eight batches across the districts of Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, Budgam, and Baramulla.

To ensure local accessibility, the department has established Advanced Carpet Training Centres equipped with modern looms and biometric attendance systems. This training, which focuses on innovative designs like silk wall hangings and global market integration, is scheduled to conclude on March 11.

By blending modern techniques with traditional heritage, the program seeks to empower youth and women while restoring the global prestige of the Kashmiri carpet industry.
