RPF Personnel Undergo Specialized Counter-IED Training by Indian Army’s Surya Disposers in Barabanki
BARABANKI, Mar 26: In a significant move to bolster rail security and disaster management, the Indian Army’s “Surya Disposers” successfully conducted a specialized two-day Counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) Training Cadre for the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Held in Barabanki as a core component of the Disaster Management Course at the Jagjivan Ram National RPF Academy, the program provided intensive instruction to 43 trainees, ranging from Inspectors to lower ranks, representing the Eastern and North Western Railway Divisions.
The curriculum was meticulously designed to address the unique challenges of the railway network, focusing on the prevention, mitigation, and rapid response to explosive threats within high-traffic transport environments.
The training regimen blended theoretical knowledge with high-stakes practical applications, featuring table-top simulations, group strategy sessions, and rigorous field drills.
A standout moment of the cadre was a live demonstration involving the safe extraction of a simulated IED from a railway bogey using advanced technical maneuvers.
Participants were also given hands-on experience with cutting-edge frontline equipment, including specialized bomb suits, infrared (IR) cameras, sophisticated explosive and narcotics detectors, and modern mobility platforms.
By bridging the gap between technological awareness and operational readiness, this inter-agency initiative has significantly enhanced the grassroots capacity of the RPF to handle modern security threats and ensure passenger safety across the Indian rail network.
