Restore J&K’s Statehood Now, It’s Our Right: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Appeals to Centre
Srinagar 29 September :- Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah on Monday once again asserted that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir was a fundamental right of people and appealed to Government of India not to test Peoples patience anymore.
Addressing media personnel in Ganderbal, Abdullah warned in strong terms against allowing the situation to spiral out of control to the extent witnessed in Ladakh. He said while the Kashmir situation is turbulent, it was crucial to ensure the situation didn’t reach a boiling point.
Reiterating that statehood is their birthright, Abdullah referred to Ladakh as an example, where the demand for the status of a Union Territory has not brought any betterment in the lives of people, and said he wished to save innocent people of J&K from undergoing the same ordeal. He reiterated that his party would continue to agitate on this issue through non-violent means.
Abdullah said that the Central government is already bound to restore statehood and has promised the Supreme Court of the same. He pointed out that the delimitation and election processes are now through, and the obvious next step would be restoring statehood.
Abdullah ended his statement by reaffirming his appeal for restraint and constitutional activism, promising to continue the rightful and legal call for statehood non-violently.
