SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 19: In preparation for the upcoming Republic Day festivities, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to finalize a comprehensive plan for a smooth and peaceful national observance. The meeting involved senior officials from various sectors, including the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, DIG Central Kashmir, and representatives from security, health, and infrastructure departments.
The Divisional Commissioner emphasized the necessity of seamless inter-departmental coordination, directing the Information Department to manage the public address system and cultural activities, while the DIG Armed Police was tasked with overseeing the unfurling of the National Flag. Creative floral arrangements by the Floriculture Department and high-level security protocols, including anti-sabotage teams managed by SSP Security, were also mandated to ensure the safety of VIPs and participants.
To guarantee the comfort of those attending the main function, the R&B Department has been instructed to provide waterproof tentage and city-wide illumination, while the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) remains on standby for snow clearance if necessary. Garg further directed that rehearsal sessions for cultural troupes and parade contingents begin in early January to maintain high standards of performance.
Additional logistical arrangements include the deployment of fire tenders, the setup of medical kiosks by the Health Department, and a dedicated traffic diversion plan by the Traffic Police to ensure undisrupted vehicular movement.
The SMC will oversee venue sanitation and dewatering, while the Hospitality & Protocol Department handles refreshments, collectively aiming for a result-oriented and celebratory Republic Day across the valley.
