Reasi SSP Reviews Security Strategy for Upcoming Shivratri Mela at Shiv Khori Shrine

REASI, February 06, 2026 — In preparation for the upcoming three-day Shivratri Mela at the revered Shiv Khori Shrine, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh, chaired a high-level security review meeting at Police Station Pouni to establish foolproof arrangements for the festival.

The session was attended by Addl. SSP Reasi Iftkhar Ahmed, Dy.SP SOG Pouni Samriti Sharma, and several SHOs and CRPF Coy Commanders from the 72 and 126 Battalions.

During the meeting, officials were briefed on the existing manpower deployment across Pouni, Ransoo, and the shrine area, with a specific focus on strengthening the yatra track to accommodate the expected surge of pilgrims.

The SSP mandated a zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-national elements and directed the District Police, Civil Administration, and CRPF to maintain heightened vigilance through intensified area domination, surprise checkpoints (nakas), and active monitoring via CCTV and Village Defence Guards (VDGs). To mitigate internal risks, instructions were issued for the comprehensive census and verification of migrant workers, pony porters, and service providers, alongside random inspections of local hotels and lodges.

Addressing broader security concerns, Paramvir Singh ordered a review of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) lists and the monitoring of social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook to counter radicalization efforts. The meeting concluded with a primary focus on crowd management and seamless inter-agency coordination to ensure the safety of all devotees throughout the festive period.
