Reasi Police Register FIR Against Landowner for Tenant Verification Violation at Panthal
REASI, JANUARY 04, 2026: In a significant move to enforce security protocols, the Katra Police have registered a criminal case against a local landowner for failing to comply with mandatory tenant verification orders.
The incident came to light during a routine patrol near Panthal, where police officers intervened to stop a violent altercation involving several individuals residing in temporary shelters (jhuggis).
Upon stabilizing the situation and conducting a field verification, the police discovered that the residents were from outside the state and were staying at the location as tenants without official record.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the landowner, Ajay Singh, a resident of Ward No. 12, Arli Hansali Road, Katra, had neglected to submit the required tenant particulars to the local police station. This omission constitutes a direct violation of the standing order issued by the SDM Katra on November 11, 2025, which legally compels all landlords to provide comprehensive details of their renters for security screening.
Consequently, FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the landowner at Police Station Katra.
The operation was led by Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao under the supervision of SDPO Katra Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran.
Following the incident, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh issued a stern advisory to all property owners in the district, emphasizing that strict adherence to tenant verification is crucial for public safety and the maintenance of law and order.
The district police reiterated that any further instances of non-compliance would result in immediate and rigorous legal action.
