KATRA, January 29, 2026 — In a strategic move to eliminate the menace of organized begging and provide a lifeline to the destitute, the District Police Reasi executed a comprehensive joint anti-begging drive across the holy town of Katra. Conducted in collaboration with PARYS (Smile Shelter Home), the operation successfully rescued 11 individuals from various high-traffic public locations.
Following the rescue, all individuals were relocated to the Smile Shelter Home at DD Panghal, Katra, where they will receive professional care, shelter, and long-term rehabilitation in accordance with social welfare norms.
The drive was spearheaded by Katra Station House Officer Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the direct supervision of SDPO Bhishm Dubey and SP Vipan Chandran. Emphasizing a humane approach, the operation focused on social reintegration rather than mere displacement.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh commended the coordination between law enforcement and welfare organizations, appealing to the general public to discourage street begging and instead support formal rehabilitation initiatives.
The District Police reaffirmed that such operations will continue periodically to maintain public order and ensure the dignity and welfare of vulnerable populations in the region.
