Reasi January 06, 2026: In a decisive move to strengthen regional security, the Reasi District Police have initiated legal action against a property owner in Katra for failing to comply with mandatory tenant verification protocols.
Acting on specific and reliable intelligence, law enforcement officials discovered that Divya Kumar (also known as Mintu), son of Hukam Chand and a resident of Ward No. 12, Katra, had permitted the construction of eight jhuggis on his plot.
These dwellings were reportedly occupied by individuals from West Bengal and Punjab who had been residing there for the past seven to eight years without their particulars being submitted to the local authorities for the required security clearance.
The failure to register these tenants constitutes a direct violation of the prescribed administrative orders, leading to the registration of FIR No. 07/2026 under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Katra Police Station.
The operation was spearheaded by Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, SHO Katra, under the strategic supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran. Senior officials emphasized that these norms are vital for maintaining public safety, especially in high-traffic pilgrimage zones like Katra, where unverified residents could pose a potential security risk.
Reaffirming the department’s stance, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh stated that there will be no leniency for those who bypass legal verification procedures. He urged all landlords and property owners to prioritize national security by ensuring every tenant’s documentation is promptly filed at the nearest police station.
This crackdown serves as a stern warning that the police will continue to monitor residential premises strictly to prevent any misuse of property and to ensure a safe environment for both residents and visitors.
