REASI, January 05, 2026: As part of an ongoing initiative to curb local crime and maintain public safety, the Reasi District Police successfully apprehended two habitual offenders and drug addicts during a routine patrol in the Katra region.
A specialized team from the Katra Police Station noticed two individuals acting suspiciously who attempted to flee upon sighting the officers. Following a brief pursuit, the police team successfully intercepted and detained both suspects.
The individuals have been identified as Rinku, son of Manohar Lal and resident of Ward No. 11, Katra, and Rakesh Kumar, son of Bishan Dass, a resident of Nagrota, Jammu, currently residing in Katra.
Detailed verification revealed that both men are repeat offenders with histories of substance abuse, categorized by authorities as potential threats to public peace and security. Consequently, legal proceedings have been initiated under Sections 129 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The operation was conducted by SHO Police Station Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the direct supervision of SDPO Katra, Dr. Bhishm Dubey, and SP Katra, Vipan Chandran.
Following the arrests, SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to proactive policing. He urged the general public to stay vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities to ensure the safety of both local residents and the many pilgrims visiting the holy town of Katra.
