MENDHAR, January 15, 2026 — JK Apni Party Spokesperson Raqeeq Ahmed Khan has issued a stern demand for the immediate establishment of a Municipality in Mendhar, accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s administration of total negligence toward the border town’s growing civic crisis.
Highlighting the severe administrative vacuum, Khan pointed out that despite its status as a critical tehsil headquarters in Poonch district, Mendhar continues to suffer from a lack of basic urban infrastructure.
He specifically noted that the absence of a formal municipal system has led to a recurring nightmare for local shopkeepers, who face devastating financial losses every rainy season as floodwaters routinely inundate their businesses while the government remains indifferent.
The spokesperson further criticized the government’s failure to provide essential services, noting that Mendhar is plunged into darkness every evening due to non-functional street lights, which he argued contradicts the Chief Minister’s claims of regional development. Khan asserted that the lack of a municipal body is the primary driver of unplanned urban growth, poor sanitation, and a total lack of accountability in public works.
Calling for an end to “governance by slogans,” he urged the CM to move beyond press conferences and deliver tangible results. Khan concluded by demanding the immediate notification of a Mendhar Municipality and the construction of a robust drainage network, warning that a formal civic body is a fundamental necessity for the safety and dignity of the local population.
