Ramban Administration Foils Illegal LPG Smuggling; 124 Gas Cylinders Seized in Major Crackdown
Ramban | March 27, 2026 — In a decisive move against the black marketing of essential supplies, the Ramban District Administration and local police have successfully intercepted the illegal transportation of 124 LPG cylinders across two separate operations.
Acting on a tip-off and intensified routine surveillance, police teams established strategic checkpoints (Nakkas) throughout the district to curb the unauthorized movement of subsidized fuel.
During the first inspection, a load carrier with registration number JK03Q-7873 traveling from Nowgam was halted; upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 24 LPG cylinders.
The driver and two co-drivers were taken into custody after failing to provide valid transit permits or a satisfactory explanation for the cargo. In a second significant recovery, authorities at the Jawahar Tunnel intercepted a TATA 407 load carrier (JK02DD-0915) arriving from the Kashmir valley.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 100 LPG cylinders, for which the driver could produce no legal documentation or justification. Consequently, the Ramban Police have registered two separate cases against the accused under Section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act, which strictly regulates the distribution and price control of vital goods.
This crackdown underscores the administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward hoarding and illegal trade, ensuring that essential resources reach the public through legitimate channels.
