Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan Administers Oath to 19 Newly Elected Members
NEW DELHI | APRIL 6, 2026 :-In a formal ceremony held today at the Rajya Sabha Chamber, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath and affirmation to 19 newly elected and re-elected members of the Upper House. The diverse group of legislators included Ramdas Bandu Athawale, Maya Chintaman Ivnate, Sharadchandra Pawar, Ramrao Sakharam Wadkute, Jyoti Nagnath Waghmare, Christopher Manickam, Anbumani Ramadoss, Constandine Ravindran, L. K. Sudhish, M. Thambidurai, Tiruchi Siva, Babul Supriya Baral, Menaka Guruswamy, Rajeev Kumar, Rukmini Mallik, Biswajit Sinha, Santrupt Mishra, Dilip Kumar Ray, and Manmohan Samal. Reflecting India’s linguistic diversity, the members took their oaths in various languages: six in Tamil, four in Bengali, three in Marathi, three in Odia, two in Hindi, and one in English.
The newly sworn-in representatives represent four states, with six members from Tamil Nadu, five from Maharashtra, five from West Bengal, and three from Odisha. The proceedings were attended by several high-ranking dignitaries, including Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P. C. Mody, alongside senior officials from the secretariat. This administrative milestone ensures the continued representation of these states in the legislative process as the new members begin their respective terms.
