Rajouri Hosts Historic Maiden Bhairav Yatra Featuring Vibrant Cultural Spectacles and Traditional Folk Art
RAJOURI, March 4, 2026 — In a landmark event for the region’s cultural calendar, the first-ever organized Bhairav Yatra was held today in Rajouri, blending spiritual tradition with a series of high-energy artistic performances.
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the District Administration, the festivities featured a colorful “Jhanki” (tableaux) depicting the Ashta Bhairav, which served as a major attraction for the hundreds of devotees in attendance.
The celebration was further enriched by a poignant “Nukkad Natak” (street play) that educated spectators on the historical heritage of the yatra, while the rhythmic sounds of traditional Dhol and Shehnai echoed through the streets, perfectly coinciding with the festive spirit of Holi.
This successful integration of cultural showcase and religious pilgrimage was made possible through the coordinated efforts of Principal Secretary of the Culture Department, Brij Mohan Sharma, and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, both of whom sought to highlight the rich ancestral traditions of the area.
The local public and participating artists received immense praise from the community, marking a successful debut for what is expected to become a cornerstone annual tradition for the district.
