Race against rain:- DC Saloni Rai Oversees Udhampur Relief: Displace 2,000 to 38 Relief Camps, Rains Damage 380 Roads; Half Restored in Round-the-Clock Operation

Udhampur 03 September :- In response to the severe rainfall that has relentlessly battered the Udhampur district since the evening of August 25th, the District administration has mounted a large-scale relief and restoration operation, said  Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai. The continuous heavy downpours have caused rivers and streams to swell dramatically and triggered multiple landslides, severing connectivity and completely isolating several areas.

Following an extensive inspection of the relief efforts on Wednesday, DC Rai confirmed that the administration’s primary focus on preventing loss of life has led to the establishment of 38 relief camps in safer locations across the district, which are currently providing shelter to more than 2,000 displaced residents. She emphasized that the district administration is ensuring a continuous supply of all essential commodities, including food and water, to the affected individuals, with staff stationed at every camp and all official teams working on the ground around the clock.

Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai said that approximately 380 roads have been damaged across Udhampur, crippling the district’s connectivity. In a significant achievement, restoration crews have already managed to repair and reopen 190 of these roads. While this has restored access to most areas, the remote regions of Dudu-Basantgarh and certain parts of Moungri remain cut off, with the administration closely monitoring the situation to ensure the supply of essentials to these isolated communities.

Network connectivity has also been largely restored, with the notable exception of the Dudu-Basantgarh belt. DC Rai assured that a full-scale road restoration effort, bolstered by additional machinery, will resume immediately once the adverse weather conditions improve.
