Punjab Police Bust ISI-Sponsored BKI Terror Module in Joint Operation; Two Arrested with Explosives

AMRITSAR, April 09, 2026: In a significant blow to cross-border terrorism, a joint operation by the Amritsar Rural Police, Gurdaspur District Police, and the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, in coordination with central agencies, has successfully dismantled an ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module.

The operation led to the arrest of two individuals acting on behalf of a foreign-based handler. Authorities recovered a lethal cache of weaponry, including five hand grenades, two special detonators, and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) consisting of one kilogram of high explosives packed with nails.

The seizure also included a PTT timer with a coder and decoder, a 9V battery, and a Baofeng walkie-talkie equipped with a trigger mechanism, signaling advanced preparations for high-impact attacks intended to disrupt public peace across the region.

An FIR has been registered at the Kalanaur Police Station in Gurdaspur under the relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act as investigators work to trace the full extent of the network. Punjab Police officials stated that the current focus is on establishing forward and backward linkages, specifically identifying the foreign handlers and local support structures that facilitated the module.

This successful intervention highlights the ongoing commitment of the Punjab Police and central intelligence agencies to maintain security and thwart attempts to destabilize the state.

Further investigations are underway to uncover additional assets or sleeper cells associated with this BKI-led operation.
