Punjab Police Bust Illegal Arms Smuggling Module in Amritsar Ahead of Republic Day

AMRITSAR, PUNJAB | JANUARY 24, 2026 – In a significant boost to security ahead of Republic Day, the Counter Intelligence wing of Amritsar has dismantled an illegal arms-smuggling module, apprehending three individuals during an intelligence-led operation. Authorities recovered three sophisticated foreign-made pistols along with a cache of live ammunition from the suspects.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were operating under the direct instructions of foreign-based gangsters and were allegedly plotting to execute a major criminal activity in the region.Following the arrests, a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar. Investigative teams are currently working to map the entire supply chain, focusing on both backward and forward linkages to determine potential cross-border connections.

With Republic Day approaching, Punjab Police have intensified their crackdown on organized crime networks, reiterating their commitment to maintaining public peace and foiling any attempts to disrupt the security of the state.
