Punjab Government Announces ₹2 Crore Compensation for Families of Martyred Gurdaspur Cops
GURDASPUR, Feb 23, 2026 — The Punjab Police and the State Government have announced significant financial support and high honors for the families of two brave personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurnam Singh and Punjab Home Guard (PHG) Ashok Kumar, both stationed in the Gurdaspur district, made the ultimate sacrifice while performing their professional duties.
In a poignant tribute to their bravery, the Chief Minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of ₹1 crore for each family. Additionally, through the department’s partnership with HDFC Bank, both families will receive an insurance payout of ₹1 crore, bringing the total financial assistance to ₹2 crore per household.
The Punjab Police department has expressed its deepest condolences, reiterating the sentiment that the “Force is Family” and pledging to stand firmly by the bereaved relatives during this difficult period.
To recognize their selfless service and gallantry, both martyrs will be accorded a final farewell with full police honors. The department’s official statement emphasized that the sacrifices of ASI Singh and PHG Kumar serve as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by personnel in ensuring public safety, and the state remains committed to ensuring their legacies are honored with dignity and comprehensive support.
