PULWAMA, January 06, 2026 — In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing war against narcotics, the Pulwama Police today successfully intercepted a major drug shipment during a proactive “naka” checking operation in the Litter area.
During the high-stakes operation, officers signaled a truck with registration number JK22B-3175 to stop for a routine inspection. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 263 grams of a heroin-like substance, the value of which is estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees in the international market.
The prompt action by the police has effectively prevented a substantial quantity of lethal contraband from entering the local supply chain.The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ather Maqbool Ganie, son of Moqbool Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, was immediately taken into custody.
Following the recovery, authorities seized the truck used in the commission of the crime. A formal case, FIR No. 03/2026, has been registered under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the local police station. Investigating officers have launched a wider probe to trace the source of the heroin and its intended destination, aiming to dismantle the larger network involved in this illegal trade.
