Jammu, 07 October :- In a landmark move under the new criminal laws (BNSS), Jammu Police at Border Police Post Garkhal secured the conviction of one individual, Sunny Kumar S/O Puran Chand R/O Rakh Maroon, Garkhal, Jammu, for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
The Hon’ble Court delivered its verdict on 07-10-2025, marking a progressive step towards reformative justice.The incident occurred on 06-10-2025 within the jurisdiction of BPP Garkhal, where the accused was found intoxicated and creating a public disturbance. He was promptly arrested, subjected to a medical examination, and produced before the JMIC Akhnoor.Instead of conventional imprisonment, the Court ordered community service as a corrective measure.
The accused was convicted for the commission of an offence under Section *
355 BNSS and directed to render community service from 08-10-2025 to 14-10-2025 at the Court Complex, Akhnoor.This provision under the new criminal laws emphasizes rehabilitation and community engagement for minor offences, promoting reform over punishment.
