Project Sampark and Project Beacon Restore Connectivity on NH-701A; Strategic Peer Ki Gali Pass Reopened

RAJOURI/POONCH, Feb 21: In a significant boost to regional connectivity, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has successfully restored traffic on National Highway 701A, popularly known as the Mughal Road.

Following an intensive snow clearance operation that concluded on February 20, 2026, the strategic Peer Ki Gali Pass is once again open to the public. The restoration effort was a joint triumph for Project Sampark and Project Beacon, whose teams worked tirelessly to clear heavy snow accumulation and ensure the route was safe for transit.

The highway was formally inaugurated for traffic by VK Rajawat, Director General (Road Development) and Special Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). During the opening, officials praised the relentless dedication of BRO personnel who operated in extreme weather conditions and high-altitude terrain to reconnect the Twin Districts with the Kashmir Valley.

This successful mission reaffirms the BRO’s unwavering commitment to maintaining vital lifelines and serving the nation, even in the most challenging environments.
