KATRA 31 December :- In a swift midnight operation on December 31, 2025, personnel from the Kakryal Police Post successfully rescued six bovine animals following a dramatic high-speed pursuit.
The incident began at the Sool Naka, where a Tata Yodha load carrier (registration number JK19A-5279) traveling from the Nangal Maghal side toward Udhampur was signaled to stop for routine checking.
Instead of complying, the driver dodged the checkpoint, performed a dangerous U-turn, and attempted to flee back toward Katra. Alert police officials immediately chased the vehicle, eventually intercepting it; however, the smugglers managed to abandon the vehicle and escape into the surrounding darkness.
Upon inspecting the abandoned load carrier, officers discovered six buffaloes packed into the vehicle and tied in an extremely cruel and cramped manner. The animals were immediately rescued and provided with necessary care.
Authorities have seized the vehicle and registered a formal case under FIR No. 348/2025, invoking Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act.
An intensive investigation is currently underway to track down the escaped suspects and dismantle the smuggling network involved in this illegal transport.
