Police conducts inspection of SIM vendors to prevent misuse in Handwara

Handwara October 03: In its sustained efforts to strengthen internal security and curb misuse of mobile communication services, Police in Handwara launched a special district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors across Police District Handwara.

Police teams carried out checks at multiple locations, focusing on Verification of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, scrutiny of documentation during SIM issuance, ensuring no SIM is activated without valid ID/address verification and reviewing safeguards adopted by vendors against unauthorized issuance.

While interacting with vendors, police officials highlighted their vital role in protecting communication networks from misuse in unlawful activities. Vendors were strictly directed to follow KYC protocols and warned of stringent legal action, including license cancellation and prosecution, in case of negligence.

J&K Police also urged the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity, fake documents, or irregularities related to SIM cards. Officials emphasized that community cooperation along with strict enforcement is essential to prevent misuse and ensure district security.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy, J&K Police assured that such inspection drives will continue regularly to maintain a safe and secure communication environment.
