Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Huge Quantity of Narcotic Substance recovered

Anantnag 29 September: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Anantnag achieved a major success by arresting a drug peddler and recovered a huge consignment of narcotic substance from his possession.Police Station Bijbehara received credible information from reliable sources regarding the illegal possession of narcotic substances by one individual, namely Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir, resident of Katriteng, Bijbehara. Acting swiftly on this information, a case FIR No. 182/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a police team from PS Bijbehara alongwith concerned Magistrate conducted a raid at the residence of the accused. During the search operation, a huge quantity of cannabis leaves mixed with seeds and covers, weighing approximately 25.200 kilograms, was recovered and seized from the house.

The accused Riyaz Ahmad Mir has been arrested and taken into custody. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify other individuals involved in the drug trade.Police remains committed to continue its crackdown on drug peddlers and urges the general public to come forward with any information related to drug trafficking or substance abuse in their areas. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
