GUWAHATI, January 17, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a historic gathering at the Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 held at Sarusajai Stadium, celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of the Bodo community. During the event, which featured a synchronized performance by over 10,000 artists, the Prime Minister emphasized that the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord has fundamentally transformed the region by replacing decades of conflict with peace and stability. He noted that thousands of youths have abandoned violence to join the mainstream, now serving as cultural and developmental ambassadors for Assam.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significant strides made in honoring Bodo traditions, including the recognition of the Bodo language as an associate official language and the granting of classical status to Assamese. He paid tribute to legendary figures like Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and social reformer Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, asserting that India’s history is incomplete without the rich heritage of Assam. Modi pointed out that his government has prioritized the region’s integration, citing the inclusion of Charaideo Moidam in the UNESCO World Heritage list and the establishment of dedicated educational and medical infrastructure in Bodoland.
Addressing the region’s progress, the Prime Minister contrasted the current era of development with past decades of unrest. He remarked that where gunfire and curfews once prevailed, the sounds of traditional instruments like the Kham and Sifung now resonate. Highlighting infrastructure milestones, he mentioned the Kokrajhar-Gelephu rail project and the special development packages worth ₹1,500 crore aimed at uplifting the Bodo-Kachari areas. Modi concluded by stating that Assam’s growing confidence and economic momentum are vital drivers of India’s overall growth story, fostering a future rooted in social harmony and collective prosperity.
