SAMBA, Feb 8: Security forces were put on alert in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir after a mysterious airplane-shaped balloon was discovered on Sunday.
The balloon, which features the acronym “PIA” (associated with Pakistan International Airlines), was spotted by locals near the PHE water supply station in Ward Number 2.Upon receiving the information, a team from the Samba Police rushed to the spot and immediately took the object into their custody.
Such discoveries often trigger security concerns in the border districts, as similar balloons have been used in the past to carry messages or mark locations.
Authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the origin of the balloon and are currently scanning the surrounding area as a precautionary measure.
While it may be a stray object carried over by high-altitude winds, the police are not taking any chances and are verifying if any suspicious materials were attached to it.
