Srinagar, Mar 27: A group of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) legislators, including Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Waheed ur Rehman Para, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, and Mir Mohammad Fayaz, have formally moved a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly seeking a dedicated discussion on the volatile situation in Iran.
The MLAs expressed their deep solidarity with the Iranian people, emphasizing the cultural and religious ties that resonate within the Union Territory.
By bringing this motion to the House, the PDP leadership aim to highlight the humanitarian concerns arising from the ongoing conflict and the potential geopolitical shifts that could impact the broader region, including the safety of Kashmiri citizens abroad.
During the session, the lawmakers urged the Speaker to allow a comprehensive deliberation on the recent developments in Iran, arguing that the Legislative Assembly should serve as a platform to voice the collective sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
They underscored the importance of advocating for peace and stability in the Middle East, noting that the escalating violence has caused widespread distress among the local population.
This move by the PDP MLAs reflects a growing demand within the Assembly for a unified diplomatic stance, calling on both the regional house and the Central Government to recognize the gravity of the international crisis and its domestic emotional and economic implications.
