PDP MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi Hails Time-Bound Inquiry into Ganderbal Encounter as Positive Step
JAMMU April 4, 2026 — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi has formally welcomed the administration’s decision to order a high-level enquiry into the recent Ganderbal encounter, describing it as a significant move toward transparency and justice.
Speaking to the press outside the Assembly complex in Jammu, Muntazir emphasized that a fair investigation is crucial to address the “serious concerns and apprehensions” raised by the family of the deceased youth. He stressed that in a democratic setup, it is imperative that the truth behind such incidents is established through a process that inspires public confidence.
Muntazir particularly commended Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for his swift intervention, noting that directing the enquiry report to be completed within a strict one-week timeframe is a commendable and rare gesture.
The MLA pointed out that this marks a historic moment for the region, as it is perhaps the first time the head of the Unified Command has personally ordered such a probe.
Reflecting on the troubled history of Jammu and Kashmir, where innocent individuals have occasionally been mislabelled or wrongly targeted, Muntazir stated that this proactive step by the administration offers a newfound hope for accountability and ensures that the findings will be eagerly anticipated by all stakeholders.
