Parts of Kashmir Under Heatwave as Temperatures Soar Above Normal
Srinagar 14 September :- Kashmir is currently in the grip of a significant heatwave, with several regions recording temperatures substantially higher than the seasonal average.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, the summer capital, Srinagar, and the northern town of Kupwara both registered a high of 32.6°C, which is 4.8°C and 4.1°C above normal, respectively.
The trend of elevated temperatures was widespread, with Qazigund recording 32.2°C (5.7°C above normal) and the famous resort town of Gulmarg, typically much cooler, hitting 23.8°C, a notable 5.2°C above its average.
The Jammu region presented a more varied picture; while Jammu city was 1.1°C above normal at 33.8°C, the pilgrimage town of Katra and Banihal were slightly cooler than usual. In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil saw temperatures of 25.6°C and 29.1°C, respectively. The persistent above-normal heat has raised concerns among locals and officials about potential impacts on water resources and agriculture in the region.
