Pakistani Balloons and Foreign Currency Recovered in Jammu’s Akhnoor Sector
AKHNOOR, Feb 23, 2026 — Security agencies in the Jammu district have launched a high-level technical inquiry following the recovery of two balloons with Pakistani markings in the village of Gunara, near Nili Nallah.
Discovered in an open field within the jurisdiction of the Khour Police Station on Monday, the balloons were found to be carrying a Pakistani mobile phone number and a printed image resembling a scanner code, raising immediate security concerns. Most notably, the recovery included a mix of Pakistani and United States currency notes, a detail that has prompted a deeper investigation into the intent behind the aerial intrusion.
Upon receiving the report, Punjab Police teams secured the location and took the materials into custody for forensic and technical analysis.
Authorities are currently verifying the origin of the balloons and investigating the significance of the printed contact details to determine if they are linked to cross-border signaling or espionage.
While similar recoveries have been reported in border areas previously, the inclusion of foreign currency has led security agencies to intensify their assessment of whether this incident is part of a broader, organized pattern.
Further details are expected to be released once the preliminary verification of the seized items is complete.
