Operation HimSetu Successfully Evacuates 1405 Stranded Persons in 48-Hour Rescue Mission

GANGTOK, APRIL 09: In a major humanitarian achievement, the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps, under the aegis of the Eastern Command, successfully completed the evacuation of 1,321 tourists and 84 local residents who were stranded due to severe weather conditions. Executed under the name “Operation HimSetu” the rescue mission was finalized within a 48-hour window in a seamless and incident-free manner.

Despite facing extreme climatic challenges and road blockages, the rescue teams worked in close coordination with the civil administration and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to ensure the safety of every individual.

The success of the operation was largely attributed to the rapid restoration of connectivity through the construction of a temporary footbridge, which allowed the stranded groups to bypass blocked routes and reach safe zones.

Army personnel provided essential support, including medical aid and refreshments, to the evacuees throughout the process.

The Trishakti Corps received widespread praise for their efficiency and dedication in navigating the treacherous terrain to restore normalcy and ensure that all 1,405 individuals were moved to secure locations without injury.
